Mirrors's Edge was released back in 2008 and despite receiving mainly positive reviews the game under-performed in terms of sales. Electronic Arts estimated the game would sell 3 million copies but only managed roughly a third of that. Well it seems hype surronds the title again as a sequel has been recently hinted at.
Patrick Liu, EA Digital Illusions CE (DICE) producer, recently stated "we see that there's a huge fan following, it's almost like a cult! And we know what strengths we had, and what weaknesses we had in that game. If we were to release a new game, we'd know what to improve and how to reach a broader audience. So I definitely think there's a market there."
Liu's quotation is one of a more optimistic tone than that which can be taken as fact. This is further solidified by EA not issuing any solid information or indiciation that Mirror's Edge 2 is in production. Speaking earlier this year EA executive Frank Gibeau did say "we're actively looking at how to bring it back in the right way [...] DICE guys really created something special the first time around. You've got to have a big idea to be able to do the next one, and that's what we're working on".
So take this story in either two meanings, one being that it just wishful thinking or possibly the beginning of a much sought after sequel to a game that despite its poor sales and falling into the abyss was actually pretty good.
