I first played a Puzzle Quest title at the recommendation of our very own Hooty McBoob, some time prior to UFO becoming the site it is today. It was on the DS and its fusion of RPG and puzzle genres was engaging and fun. Puzzle Quest Galactrix is a new take on the franchise. You're still matching gems and have a fair-sized story and map to meander around doing your quests, but instead of just having the two directions to worry about, you have thre, since your gems are now hexagonal.
It's sort of the same step from
Oblivion to
Fallout 3; same concept, different setting and everything that was in the former is in the latter, just redressed. And because the gameplay is limited to gem matching but with slight twists (match certain colours in a certain order, or with limited time, space and so on...) you might find it a little monotonous, especially with all those LeapGates to hack open.

Still, the RPG elements are bigger than in
Puzzle Quest - Challenge of the Warlords, which means there's a lot more reading (or skipping) to do, but more of a storyline to get involved in. 1,600 MSPs is quite steep, but this game will keep you going for a very, very long time indeed, but it does border on being too frustrating at times, but then, the relief of overcoming that annoyance is so good, isn't it...
