This has monopolised a lot of my time over recent months thanks to a recommendation from a friend. It's essentially an iPhone port of a console game, and while I have played the Xbox version, I won't be drawing any comparisons, in fact I won't be saying a great deal except that it's a lot of fun and you will find yourself spending hours trying to conquer the known world. If you're anything like me then you won't be able to leave it alone until you've conquered the capital of whichever civilisation you're attacking at that point. As far as iPhone apps go, strategy games have been somewhat lacking, but this one stands out from the few there are. You essentially have to build cities and armies and try to take over the world. You can play as any one of 16 famous world leaders from Catherine the Great to Abraham Lincoln to Gandhi to Montezuma and who you choose affects the abilities, or perhaps priorities would be a better word, of your civilisation. I say priorities rather than abilities as they effects are only very minor. There are about 5 levels from Chieftain up to Deity. Chieftain and Warlord are pretty easy once you get used to how it works, Emperor and King prove a bit more of a challenge, and I haven't managed to bring myself to attempt it on Deity!
Although this was reduced for a day, I am ashamed to say I missed it and had to pay the full retail price of $4.99, however, it's well worth the money, as Hooty McBoob has said "I personally think that at £2.99 Civilization Revolution for iPhone was an incredible bargain and at the higher price tag of £5.99 its still pure value for money." and I have to agree with him. I'm not one for spending a lot on iPhone games to be honest, I prefer to snap them up at bargain prices, but in this case I have no regrets. You can check out the rest of his article here, and unless you think we're both talking bollocks, I'd suggest your next stop is the app store...
